/ 10:53 AM March 19, 2018

CEBU CITY – An unidentified gunman shot and wounded an inspector of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), who was on his way to work, in Cebu City early Monday.

Authorities said Edwin Sarcon, 53, sustained a gunshot wound in his neck. He was subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police investigators said the victim was on his way to the BJMP regional office when a motorcycle-riding assailant shot him several times along R. Duterte Street corner V. Rama Avenue in Barangay Guadalupe around 7:30 a.m. They have yet to determine the motive behind the attack on the jail inspector.

Senior Police Officer 1 Winston Ybañez, of the city police homicide section, said they would try to get the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the incident in a bid to establish the identity of the gunman. /kga
