TACLOBAN CITY — Eastern Visayas’ premiere airport had doubled its terminal’s passenger capacity in a project that a top transportation official said would mean more comfort for travelers.
The terminal building of Daniel Z. Romualdez (DZR) Airport had been expanded to take in 700 passengers from 300.
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade graced the opening of the expanded terminal building last Friday.
“Passengers will now be more comfortable,” he said.
P17-million budget
Construction of the expanded terminal building started in June last year and completed early this month.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, which manages the DZR Airport, allocated at least P17 million for the expanded terminal building.
Construction did not affect airport operations.
Tugade said the expanded terminal building was part of the government’s plan to improve the airport.
Other improvements included construction of asphalt overlays, construction of a new parking area and shore protection facilities.
The projects, worth about P500 million, were expected to be finished early next year.
