Alleged drug trafficker shot dead in QC buy-bust ops

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a shootout with policemen during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City on Wednesday night.

Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City police director, identified the suspect as Abdul Asis Daimon, who was shot dead by anti-drug operatives of Batasan Police Station (PS-6) after reportedly resisting arrest for illegal drugs.

Eleazar, in a statement on Thursday, disclosed that Batasan Police Station Drug Enforcement Units (SDEU) conducted a buy-bust operation at around 11:30 p.m. at Lower Jasmin, Barangay Payatas against Daimon and his other cohorts.

Daimon’s suspected cohorts, who were “known drug pushers in Barangay Payatas,” were identified as Xander Gal dela Cruz, Micheal Mahinay, Rizen Oclas Sobrepena and Nazeer Sindato, the QCPD chief said.

“A policeman acted as poseur-buyer bought P500.00 of shabu from Daimon. After the transaction, Daimon sensed the presence of other policemen and that the buyer was an undercover operative,” Eleazar said.

After Daimon ran to his house where his suspected cohorts were having a shabu session, Dela Cruz fired a caliber .38 revolver against pursuing SDEU operatives, he said.

“The operatives had no option but to shoot back wounding him. Daimon was ordered to surrender but also fired at the operatives with a shotgun which misfired. The lawmen shot back at Daimon,” the police director said.

The two were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center, where Dela Cruz was confined but Daimon was pronounced dead on arrival.

Eleazar added that Mahinay and Sobrepena were arrested, while Sindato escaped and is now the subject of a manhunt.

Seized during the operation were 15 sachets of shabu, an unlicensed caliber .38 revolver and shotgun, the buy-bust money and drug paraphernalia, the QCPD chief said. /jpv
