A member of a criminal gang who was wanted for murder and had been in hiding since 2014 has been arrested at his hideout in Taguig City.
Eduardo Ferrer was taken into custody on Sunday by operatives of the Southern Police District (SPD) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group who were armed with two arrest warrants.
Before their operation, the police had placed Ferrer on surveillance for a week.
Based on their monitoring, he was a “slippery and cautious” man who used several houses in Central Bicutan as his hideouts.
He only left these houses for brief moments whenever there was a cockfight in the area.
Escape try foiled
The 43-year-old Ferrer tried to escape from his safehouse on San Juan Street in Barangay Central Bicutan and running into one of the alleys in the area.
He also attempted to fire at the pursuing policemen with his .45-caliber pistol before they overpowered him, according to Supt. Julius Caesar Domingo, chief of the SPD-Special Operations Unit.
Ferrer – who also went by the names Alex, Mambo and Bambi – was facing murder charges, resulting in the issuance of two arrest warrants by Judge Noemi Balitaan of the Parañaque Regional Trial Court Branch 258 in October and December 2014.
“He has killed many people here in Taguig but the families did not file charges against him because they were all afraid of him,” Domingo said.
