Graphic warnings on cigarette packs ‘a success’

/ 06:58 AM March 12, 2018

The first two years of showing graphic health warnings (GHWs) on cigarette packs have proven to be successful, according to a health advocacy group.

New Vois Association of the Philippines president Emer Rojas said the main purpose of the Republic Act No. 10643, or the GHWs Law, had been effective in informing potential and current smokers on the dangers of cigarette smoking.

“We are now seeing less smokers and those who are about to start smoking are hesitating to light up cigarettes and puff them,” Rojas said. —Tina G. Santos
