Imee Marcos says legacy left by her late father will ‘stand on its own’

Despite criticisms hurled against her family, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos is confident that the legacy of her late father, former president Ferdinand Marcos will “stand on its own.”

Marcos added that her decision to run for national office in the 2019 polls will have no effect on the former president’s legacy.

“Yung pagtakbo sa political office, wala namang kinalaman sa legacy iyon,” she said.

“Yung legacy, mananatili yan kahit ano pang gawin mo, kahit anong tumbling pa sa politika,” she added.

The governor also said that the accomplishments of her late father are proof of that legacy.

“Mananatili at mananatili yan sapagkat andiyan yung dam, yung irrigation, yung rural rectification, yung mga highway. Lahat yan mananatili eh.” she said.

“At the end of the day, his legacy will stand on its own and will be judged generation after generation,” she added.

Last week, Marcos revealed that she might seek national office following the slow pace of the electoral protest lodged by her brother, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. against Vice President Leni Robredo.

“The electoral protest filed by Bongbong has not advanced so one of his other siblings may be forced to seek national office, like me,” she said.

“That’s what the family is contemplating,” she added
