The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started distributing cash subsidy for families classified as the country’s poorest to help them cope with rising prices of goods brought by the implementation of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.
The unconditional cash transfer (UCT) program would benefit at least 10 million households which would each get P200 a month this year and P300 a month in 2019 and 2020.
UCT would be in addition to the ongoing cash transfer Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
Distribution of UCT started this week to at least 1.8 million households. In a press statement on Monday, the DSWD said beneficiaries might withdraw their monthly subsidies at Landbank automated teller machines nationwide.
An initial P4.3 billion was released for the first batch of UCT beneficiaries. —Jaymee Gamil
