Fairview police station officials axed after cop flunks surprise drug test

The commander of the Fairview Police Station (PS-5) and the chief of the station’s anti-drug unit were both relieved after a police officer assigned to the station was found positive for using illegal drugs, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said on Tuesday.

QCPD director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar ordered the relief of the two station officials after PO1 Gabby Tumaliuan Bulan who is assigned to the station’s Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU), tested positive for illegal drugs during a surprise drug test in Camp Karingal on February 19.

Removed from their posts were Fairview Police Station commander Supt. Tomas Nuñez, and Senior Insp. Danilo Songalia, chief of the station’s SDEU.

“The relief is part of command responsibility and the existing “one strike policy” for commanders who will be found remiss in their duties and responsibilities,” Eleazar said in a statement.

Bulan has been transferred to the District Headquarters Support Unit of the QCPD and was placed under restrictive custody, said Eleazar.

Bulan was also ordered to surrender his badge, Philippine National Police (PNP) identification card and service firearm pending administrative and criminal investigation.

“Bilang mga drug busters, kailangan na sila mismo ay maging ehemplo. Hindi pwede na sila yung manghuhuli sa mga involved sa illegal drugs, tapos sila mismo ay gumagamit pala,” Eleazar said.

Eleazar added that the relief of the Fairview Police Station officials should serve as a warning to all QCPD police officers, especially those assigned to anti-illegal drug units.

“The relief of the station commander should also serve as a reminder to all other officers especially those assigned in anti-illegal drug units to be always vigilant over their personnel,” he said.  /muf
