The Supreme Court (SC) will tackle on Tuesday the quo warranto petition filed by the Office of the Solicitor General in a bid to remove from office Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno without an impeachment trial.
Sources confirmed that the petition has been included in the agenda for the high court’s regular en banc (full court) session on Tuesday.
The quo warranto petition, according to Solicitor General Jose Calida, is the proper petition because Sereno is “unlawfully” holding her current position.

“The blatant disregard by respondent Sereno to comply with the requirements of the law and Constitution proves her lack of integrity, hence she is unlawfully holding the position as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court,” Calida told reporters earlier Monday. /kga
