LEGAZPI CITY — Hundreds of resorts and ecotourism destinations in Bicol will be subjected to inspection for possible violation of environmental laws, according to a regional official of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).
The inspection is part of the government crackdown on establishments in tourist areas violating environment and easement laws.
Subject to monitoring are beach resorts, ecotourism destinations, lakes and protected areas.
Check of facilities
Eva Ocfemia, EMB director for Bicol, said her office would start checking this week whether the resorts had complied with the requirements of environmental compliance certificates (ECCs) issued to them.
These include sewage, septage, solid waste and drainage facilities provided by resort owners and government-operated ecotourism areas.
“In cases where we find violations, a notice would be served, or a sanction and eventually a closure order could be imposed,” Ocfemia said.
She said the agency would also dialogue with and receive updates from stakeholders.
