DAGUPAN CITY – A man armed with a knife broke into the family compound of Bolinao Mayor Arnold Celeste and threatened to kill and burn his family Saturday afternoon.

Domingo Celi, 58, barged into the Celeste compound in Barangay Luciente 1 in Bolinao at about 5 p.m. and made his threats, according to Chief Insp. Joseph Mark Sibayan, the local police chief.

The mayor’s siblings, Councilor George Celeste, 56, and his sister Margaret Celeste, 62, tried to pacify Celi but the suspect challenged the councilor to a fist fight.

Mayor Celeste came out of his house and tried to help calm down Celi but the intruder shoved the mayor and drew a knife from his pocket, Sibayan said.

“It was not the first time that he did that but the Celeste family just ignored him,” said Sibayan by telephone. “I was told that the man is going through depression,” he added.

Celi was immediately arrested and is now detained at the Bolinao police station. He will be facing cases of direct assault upon a person in authority, threats, alarm and scandal and trespassing. /cbb
