Baby dies in Zamboanga City fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY-A two-month-old baby boy was killed while his mother suffered injuries in the fire that broke out on Doña Pura Drive near Veterans Ave. here Friday.

City Fire Marshal, Superintendent Jhufel Brañanola identified the boy as Ronel Ligid Jr.

Brañanola said the fire started at the house being occupied by the family of Jocelyn Ligid inside the compound of the Pacific Hardware owned by Frederic Chiong around 10 a.m.

He said Jocelyn struggled to get out of the burning house and later realized she left her baby behind.

“She sustained injuries on her right upper back, however the two-month old baby was left inside their house and was  burned to death,” Brañanola said, quoting from a report.

Authorities, he said, were still conducting deeper investigation into the fire.

Damage on the property was still being ascertained.
