Village chief gunned down in Batangas

SAN PEDRO CITY-A barangay (village) captain was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in San Juan town in Batangas province barely two months into the village and youth council elections.

Mario Sulit, captain of Barangay Hugom, was outside his garage when he was shot around 9 p.m. on Thursday, a report from the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) police said on Friday.

The gunmen reportedly escaped on a motorcycle towards the town of Lobo.

Sulit died while being taken to San Juan District Hospital.
