How to celebrate 18th birthday with the Robredos?
With simplicity, apparently.
Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday led what was described by many as “simple” 18th birthday celebration for Jillian, Robredo’s youngest daughter.
Robredo shared a picture of the celebration – actually a “salubong” as it was on the eve of Jillian‘s birthday – in her personal Facebook account.
Since both Jillian and Tricia, her second daughter who’s 23, would be having examinations the following day, Robredo said they decided to celebrate with just an ice cream cake, flowers and balloons.
The Vice President also apologized for looking “really sick,” saying she had been under the weather.
Her husband, the late Jesse Robredo, who died in a plane crash in 2012, and 30-year-old Aika, who is taking further studies in the United States, joined them virtually – through photos saved on their phones.
“If it looks like we’re endorsing a cell phone brand, that’s Jesse and Aika there,” the Vice President said. “We were making sure they can join us tonight.”
On Monday, she treated Jillian to “a very quick dinner” because it was still examinations week.
Many praised the Robredos for exhibiting “humility and sincerity” in celebrating. /atm
