Mocha Uson tags Sara Duterte as ‘next president’

It appears that if Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson had it her way, she would want Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to be not just a future senator, but something more.

While in Hong Kong on Sunday to meet overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in an activity for the Tapang at Malasakit-Alliance for the Philippines, the controversial blogger made another statement through her Mocha Uson Blog Facebook page.

In one of the photos she posted, Uson described the mayor and presidential daughter as “Guapa! Bright! Buotan! At siyempre isog!” (Beautiful! Bright! Good! And of course, tough!) But what’s even more noticeable in her compliments was its accompanying hashtag: #NextPresident.

Her viral post so far has gained 38,000 likes and reactions, and more than 3,800 shares, as of this writing.

While Mayor Duterte clarified that she cannot run for the Senate because she cannot leave her children behind, she endorsed another candidate: Asec. Uson. She also endorsed former senator and now Taguig congresswoman Pia Cayetano, as seen in a video by CinEmotion Digital Films.

Previously, Uson was tagged by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez as part of the Senate slate for the ruling party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Uson thanked Mayor Duterte for the support, but said that she wants to focus on work right now.

Meanwhile, Uson’s post with the #NextPresident hashtag for Mayor Duterte triggered mixed reactions from netizens. One commenter Allan Noel said Carpio has more ideals “than the trapos (traditional politicians) of PDP-Laban.”

Another commenter Ariel Riazon Rocha proposed that Uson and Mayor Duterte ought to be a tag team and aim for a higher position in government.

One netizen asked Mayor Duterte to first settle for the vice presidency and let Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. be the president first.

Meanwhile, some commenters pointed out that it’s free to dream, anyway.

While Uson has been keeping mum on whether or not she is indeed running for the senate, Mayor Duterte has recently been involved in a squabble with Alvarez. The mayor called out Alvarez for saying she is part of the opposition after forming a political party independent of PDP-Laban; the House Speaker has since denied ever stating such, and instead said that the mayor may have been fed with wrong information.
