Drug suspect, wife gunned down in Mati City

TAGUM CITY – Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a drug suspect and his wife outside a vocational school in Mati City in Davao Oriental on Sunday evening, the police said Monday.

Superintendent Adolfo Eyan, the Mati City police chief, identified the victims as Abdul Jalil Macabuat, 23, and his wife, Jamaica. The Macabuats lived in Lower Salazar in Barangay Central in Mati City.

Eyan said the couple was talking outside a vocational school in Barangay Sainz when two men approached, pulled out handguns and shot them at about 8:55 p.m.

The suspects fled while the Macabuats were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead upon arrival.

Responding police investigators recovered from the scene five empty shells and a slug from a cal. 45 pistol, according to Eyan.

He said Jalil had recently been released on bail after being detained for illegal drug charges.

An investigation is ongoing to identify the suspects and determine the motive for the shooting, Eyan added. /cbb
