Soldier injured in roadside bomb explosion

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Suspected communist rebels set off a roadside bomb in President Roxas, North Cotabato, injuring a soldier driving an Army truck, the police said Sunday.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, the North Cotabato police spokesperson, said a convoy of military vehicles of 19th Infantry Battalion was heading to Kidapawan City from Arakan town, also in North Cotabato, when the roadside bomb went off at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Purok 8 in Barangay Poblacion, President Roxas town.

Cpl. Roel Padolina, who was was driving one of the KM-150 trucks loaded with soldiers, was hit by shrapnel, Tayong said.

He said Padolina, who sustained injuries on his arms and body, was rushed to the North Cotabato provincial hospital here. /atm
