The weather bureau is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) near General Santos City in South Cotabato which is forecast to affect much of the country on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or amihan continues to affect northern Luzon, the weather bureau said.

At 3 a.m, the LPA was tracked at 205 km west southwest of General Santos City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a bulletin Sunday morning.

Pagasa said the LPA would bring cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Eastern and Central Visayas and Caraga, as well as MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and the province of Quezon.

Meanwhile, the amihan will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain to the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region and the Ilocos Region.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience localized thunderstorms, it added. /cbb
