Palace welcomes ‘Walk for Life’ event
Malacañang Palace welcomed on Saturday the “Walk for Life” event organized by religious groups despite the fact that pressing issues against the Duterte administration were tackled.
“As we all know, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is open to constructive criticism,” Roque said in a statement. “He allows everyone, including the protesters, to fully exercise their right to express their grievances within the bounds of the law.”
“Today’s Walk for Life is a testament that democracy and freedom are very much alive in the Philippines,” Roque added.
He then thanked the Church leaders for cooperating with the authorities during the event that led to a peaceful gathering.
The event started at around 4 a.m. at the Quirino Grandstand and tackled national issues, such as the Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drugs and the proposed reinstatement of the death penalty.
