DAGUPAN CITY — A truck driver was killed while 10 others were injured after six vehicles collided along the highway in Rosario town in La Union province early Friday, police said.
Mark Anthony Locquiao, 25, died while being rushed to a hospital after the 10-wheeler truck he was driving hit five other vehicles around 6:45 a.m. on the southbound lane of the Manila North Road in Barangay (village) Udiao.
Rosario police head Chief Insp. Bernabe Oribello said Locquiao’s truck possibly suffered brake problems when it suddenly accelerated while negotiating a road curve. It initially smashed on the right side of a trailer truck moving ahead, then sideswiped two tricycles and a passenger bus before crashing into a vacant house.
The impact then caused the passenger bus, a Victory Liner, to hit a mini-bus.
Oribello said Locquiao was thrown off his truck and was unconscious when rescuers took him to bring to a hospital.
Among those injured in the accident were five bus passengers, four mini-bus passengers, and one of the tricycle drivers. /kga
