About 900 passengers of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) were offloaded on Wednesday in Makati City after one of its trains experienced three system failures.

In an advisory, MRT-3 media relations officer Aly Narvaez said passengers were offloaded on the northbound platform of Guadalupe station due to “electrical failure in our motor, diagnostic panel failure, and defective ACU (air-conditioning unit)” at 8:40 a.m.

The cause of the system failures was “worn-out train components,” Narvaez added.

“The defective train is now being pulled out for repair at the depot,” she said.

The Department of Transportation said commuters could expect improvement in MRT service by the end of February after replacement parts for some of the worn out units were set to arrive this month.

The affected commuters were then loaded in the next train which arrived nine minutes after the incident, she said. /cbb
