A crane used in the construction of Skyway-C-5 extension project collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, causing heavy traffic in areas of Taguig.

The crane of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. fell down around 2 p.m. and blocked the northbound lane of C-5 Centennial Road, just past the C-5 toll gate of South Luzon Expressway and Skyway.

Motorists were advised to look for alternate routes as heavy traffic reached the Bicutan toll plaza.

A zipper lane for counterflowing vehicles was opened at the southbound of C-5 Road, according to Celine Pialago, spokesperson of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

Pialago said no one was reportedly hurt. A flatbed trailer was hit by the crane but its unidentified driver was not injured.

An initial report by the MMDA said the crane collapsed after “its base support sank.”

There was also power interruption near the area as the crane hit one of the electric posts, according to Meralco.

As of writing, traffic enforcers are still clearing the area. /je
