New batch of ex-NPA rebels to dine with Duterte

A new batch of former communist rebels is set to have dinner with President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday.

The 241 ex-members of the New People’s Army arrived in Manila from Davao City on Tuesday, the Eastern Mindanao Command said in a statement.

They were flown by two C-130 cargo planes of the Philippine Air Force. Of the 241 former rebels, 38 are females.

“They are part of the 683 former New People’s Army (NPA) rebels from different parts of Eastern Mindanao that were presented to the President on December 21, 2017, at Panacan, Davao City,” the Eastmincom said.

Just like the first batch of 215 former rebels who met with Duterte early this month, they will tour historical sites like Luneta Park and Intramuros.

They will also be welcomed by Armed Forces chief Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero on Wednesday morning at Camp Aguinaldo. The former rebels will return to Davao City on Thursday. /je
