Man defied checkpoint, yielded ‘drug sachets’ in Tagaytay City
SAN PEDRO CITY – A man who sped past a police checkpoint in Tagaytay City was arrested on Monday evening, and yielded seven sachets of suspected drugs and a cellphone that allegedly contained drug transactions.
Tagaytay City police head Supt. Elmer Decena said in a phone interview on Tuesday that Alvin Codizal’s arrest was “incidental.”
According to Decena, the Batangas police intelligence office earlier alerted the Tagaytay City police about a robbery in a private company in Laurel, Batangas that involved a suspect on a black motorcycle.
This information prompted them to set up a road checkpoint in Tagaytay City, Cavite where the robbery suspect was reportedly headed to.
“It just so happened that his (Codizal) motorcycle was very similar (to the one used in the Batangas robbery). (Codizal) was flagged down but instead of pulling over, he sped past our policemen,” Decena narrated.
Decena said police chased Codizal, who was eventually cornered some three kilometers from the checkpoint in Barangay Asisan, around 7:30 p.m. Monday

Decena said Codizal was detained while his cellphone was turned over to the Cavite police Drug Enforcement Unit to investigate whether its content may provide other details of illegal drug transactions in the provinces of Batangas and Cavite. /kga
