DBM studies pension raise for cops, soldiers

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has started computing how much the national government needs to cover the cost of increasing the pension of retired policemen, soldiers and other uniformed personnel, the chair of the House appropriations committee said on Monday.

“The DBM is crunching the numbers,” said Davao City Rep. Karol Alexei Nograles on the sidelines of the 27th Philippine National Police founding day celebration here.

He said the pension increase was incorporated into the proposed national budget for 2019.

But he said looking for sources to fund this year’s P65-billion allocation—which raised the pay of policemen and soldiers—had been a challenge for the government. —Tonette Orejas
