The Mayon volcano spewed ash and lava before sunrise on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said.

Citing seismic records, Phivolcs said an eruption of ash and lava from the restive volcano was recorded at about 4:49 a.m.

However, Dave Rivera, science research specialist of Phivolcs, said the agency was not able to record any details about the eruption due to the obscured view.

“Hindi po natin makuha yung details when it comes to the height dahil obscured po yung view because cloud covered po yung summit,” he said.

Despite this, he said they were able to observe bright lava glow at the crater of Mayon.

Rivera added that no booming or rumbling sounds were heard from Ligñon Hill when the volcano spewed lava. /cbb
