A possible trough of low pressure area (LPA) will affect Davao region while the northeast monsoon or hanging amihan will affect extreme northern Luzon, the state weather bureau said on Sunday.

The possible trough of LPA is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Davao region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), and residents were advised to be on alert for possible flashfloods and landslides caused by light to heavy rain.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa also said that the northeast monsoon would cause cloudy skies and scattered rain in Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.                        /kga
