The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Albay province passed an ordinance prohibiting the use of plastic bags, Styrofoam and other synthetic fabrics as packaging materials in supermarkets, grocery outlets, markets, retailers and other commercial establishments. Violators face fines ranging from P1,000 to P5,000 and cancellation of their business permits.

Feb. 23, 2011

The province of Camarines Sur simultaneously planted 64,096 trees in 15 minutes, breaking a Guinness World Record previously held by India at 50,033 trees. The tree-planting activity was part of Camarines Sur’s “El Verde” movement, which targeted to plant 12 million trees from 2011 to 2012.
