‘Medical marijuana’ claim can’t get him off the hook

A Canadian national was arrested and barred from leaving the country after airport security personnel caught him carrying a stash of marijuana shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

Gary Gentles was found keeping dried marijuana leaves in a 100-gram jar supposedly for dried nutmeg, officials said.

The drug was discovered during a security check on Gentles as he was about to exit the gate for a flight to Ontario via Sydney at Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).

During questioning, he claimed that he was using marijuana to treat his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but he was not able to present a doctor’s prescription, the Naia Interagency Drug Interdiction Task Group said in a report. —Dexter Cabalza
