Man who jumps off Agus bridge rescued

ILIGAN CITY-A 23-year-old man attempted to commit suicide by jumping off the Agus bridge above the Maria Cristina Falls here on Thursday.

The man reportedly got depressed after his grandmother objected to his plan to marry his girlfriend.

The grandmother confirmed this but she said she had no inkling about her grandson’s plan.

“He left for work early morning,” she said.

A friend of the man said security guards at the National Power Corp. (Napocor) had no idea what his friend was doing until he jumped and fell more than 300 meters into the river.

The man was subsequently rescued and was rushed to a hospital due to bruises he suffered from the fall.

Romero Pacilan, Napocor legal officer, said the incident was being investigated.

“We have a standing security policy and guidance that no vehicle and person is allowed in the middle of the NPC Agus bridge,” he said.
