The Liberal Party (LP) has called for the release of detained Senator Leila de Lima on Valentine’s Day, marking her first anniversary this month behind bars.
De Lima, the LP said, was a “classic case of ‘nagmahal sa bayan, sinaktan, kinulong, pinagkakaitan ng karapatan.’”

The LP also marked this year’s Valentine’s Day as the start of its “month-long commemoration” of De Lima’s detention at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The senator has been in detention since Feb. 24, 2017, for drug-related charges, which she has repeatedly denied.
“For close to a year now, she has been deprived of her freedom, mainly that of being with her children, grandchildren, and mother. Equally, we—her constituents—have been deprived of her talents and courage in fighting for the least of our brothers and sisters,” it said.
The party asked the public to continuously support and fight for true democracy in the country. /jpv
