9 dead in wake of ‘Basyang’ in Caraga region

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — The death toll caused by Tropical Storm “Basyang” in Caraga region went up to nine, disaster response offices reported on Wednesday.

The Surigao del Norte disaster risk reduction and management office said four people were confirmed killed in floods that hit the province on Tuesday.

Two people were killed in Placer town while one died in each of the towns of Malimono and Alegria.

Earlier, the Office of the Civil Defense in Caraga confirmed five deaths in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur. Two others remained missing in Lanuza town as of Wednesday.
