THE Cebu City government is considering to put up a socialized housing project on a prime lot in barangay Kamagayan.
Department for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) head Collin Rosell revealed that the City Center is fit for a low- cost housing and could accommodate about 1,000 beneficiaries.
But he clarified that the beneficiaries of the housing project will pay the city government through Pag-Ibig.
Rama has allotted P100 million for a housing project for city hall employees in his proposed 2012 budget, which is being reviewed by the city council.
As of now, DWUP is conducting a profiling of city hall employees to determine who are qualified to avail of the proposed employee’s housing project.
Qualified beneficiaries must be a Pag-Ibig member and has made contributions for a period of at least one year.
Councilor Augustus Pe Jr. is asking from DWUP a list of city hall employees who have already availed of the city’s socialized housing programs.
Pe said the council will determine first if the new housing project is needed before it approves the P100-million proposed appropriation.
Rosell revealed the city government has spent close to P500 million for socialized housing projects including lot purchases from 1995 to 2008.
But the city is also expected to earn P4.5 million to P5 million per month from housing amortization next year.
This projection does not include revenues from the occupants of the Sugbu Homes.
DWUP will also reevaluate the status of the city’s socialized housing project to determine if the occupants have an active contracts with the city government and if they are paying amortization. Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
