‘Basyang’ prompts Bohol town to evacuate 251 persons

TAGBILARAN CITY–The municipal government of Candijay in Bohol province evacuated 251 persons on Monday afternoon in anticipation of Tropical Depression “Basyang” (international name: Sanba)

“We are doing pre-emptive evacuation due to the risk of landslide and floods,” said Jeryl Lacang-Fuentes, local disaster risk reduction and management officer.

The families came from Barangays Cadapdapan, Panadtaran and Cambane, which were considered landslide and flood prone areas.

The water in Panadtaran reached waist deep, said Fuentes.

Affected residents were housed in evacuation centers.

Fuentes said the local government was stockpiling goods for the affected families.

In Panglao town, tourists were going to the beach despite the stormy weather.

On Tuesday, some foreigners were bringing umbrellas to the beach.#
