Trillanes: If evidence on Duterte wealth is ‘garbage,’ then why panic?

If his evidence against President Rodrigo Duterte was “garbage,” then why are they panicking?

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV raised this question on Tuesday after Solicitor General Jose Calida asked the Senate to stop its planned probe on Duterte’s wealth.

“Trillanes seeks another Senate hearing about his garbage evidence. The Senate should stop this investigation,” Calida said in a press conference.

Responding to the Solgen, the senator said in a statement, “If what I have is nothing but garbage, then why are they panicking?”

“And why can’t Mr. Duterte just accept my challenge for him to sign a waiver and if I am wrong in my allegations then I would resign immediately as Senator and voluntarily walk-in any jail of his choice?” he added.

It was Trillanes who had filed a resolution calling for a Senate probe on alleged possible violations of the Anti-Money Laundering Act by the President himself and daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The resolution had been referred to the Senate blue ribbon committee being chaired by Senator Richard Gordon, and the Senate committee on banks, financial institutions and currencies being headed by Senator Francis Escudero.

Trillanes’ resolution was later referred to the Senate committee on rules being chaired by Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III upon Gordon’s suggestion that the allegations against Duterte should either be investigated by the House of Representatives through an impeachment proceeding or the Office of the Ombudsman, but not the Senate. /je
