Any Senate investigation into allegations of hidden wealth against President Rodrigo Duterte should be stopped, Solicitor General Jose Calida said on Tuesday.

In a press conference, Calida revealed that the Office of the Ombudsman has already “closed and terminated” the investigation into the plunder complaint filed by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV against Mr. Duterte.

Calida presented to the media a letter dated February 12 from Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang, stating that the complaint filed by Trillanes was terminated on November 29, 2017.

“Trillanes seeks another Senate hearing about his garbage evidence. The Senate should stop this investigation,” Calida said.

“He has to eat his garbage. He was bragging his evidence came from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), and the AMLC disowned it not once, not twice, but thrice,” he stressed.                       /kga
