77-year-old man dies of burns he got saving wife from fire in Pagadian

PAGADIAN CITY — A 77-year-old man died after suffering from severe burns while trying to save his ailing wife from a fire that gutted their house in Barangay Buenavista here on Monday.

Senior Insp. Edgar Quitoy, the city fire marshal, said Vicente Pasco was pronounced in critical condition after he and his wife, Aida, were rushed to a hospital following the 1:45 a.m. fire.

Pasco later died while being treated, while Aida remained under medication.

Based on investigation, only Pasco and his wife were inside their house when the fire broke out and spread to at least two more houses.

Quitoy said neighbors heard Pasco screaming and saw him frantically pushing his wife out of the house.

The neighbors – along with village watchmen – immediately responded and rushed the couple to the hospital. /atm
