SAN PEDRO CITY — A shootout with a “high-value” suspect left a the deputy police chief of the Cainta Municipal Police Station dead and a civilian wounded in Rizal province.
Senior Insp. Jimmy Senosin died early morning Monday due to gunshot wounds, according to Supt. Raynold Rosero, the Cainta police chief.
Rosero identified the wounded bystander as Reyland Jamon.
In a phone interview, Rosero said the shootout took place in Barangay San Andres around 7:30 p.m. Sunday after a resident alerted the police to a suspicious armed man in the vicinity.
The armed man turned out to be a suspect identified only as alias “Ruben Tae,” who is wanted by the authorities in Cainta and Pasig for cases involving illegal drugs, robbery, and illegal firearms.
According to Rosero, Ruben fire at the approaching police officers, prompting them to shoot back.
The suspect managed to escape by throwing a hand grenade at the officers.
“The grenade did not explode,” Rosero. “But the deputy was hit [during the shootout].” /atm
