More than 100 passengers were left stranded on Monday at the ports in Mindanao due to rough seas caused by Tropical Storm “Basyang.”
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced that as of 8 a.m., a total of 140 passengers, 20 rolling cargoes, and 6 vessels were halted from traveling at Surigao, Lipata, and Nasipit ports due to the weather disturbance affecting the country.
The PCG advised all of its units to strictly implement its guidelines regarding movement of vessels during heavy weather.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has raised typhoon signals over Visayas and Mindanao.
Signal no. 1 was raised over the following provinces: Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Siquijor, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Camiguin, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Bukidnon.
Meanwhile, Surigao del Sur was placed under typhoon signal number 2 by Pagasa.
The weather bureau said that Basyang is expected to make landfall in Caraga region by Tuesday morning.
As of 10 a.m., Basyang was spotted at 620 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, Pagasa said. /je
