Tropical storm expected to enter PAR Sunday night

A tropical depression that the state weather bureau has been monitoring has strengthened and become a tropical storm by Sunday afternoon.

As of 4:00 p.m., storm was located at 1,070 km east of Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa predicted that the storm would enter the Philippine area of responsibility Sunday night. It will then be named Basyang.

The storm has a maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and a gustiness of up to 80 kph.

The Caraga and Davao regions were warned to be alert for possible flashfloods and landslides caused by the the trough of storm.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley would have cloudy skies with scattered rains due to the northeast monsoon, or amihan, Pagasa said.

The amihan would also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains over the Ilocos region.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country wil have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers brought by localized thunderstorms. /atm
