CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — An alleged henchman of the Parojinog family of Ozamiz City had been charged with involvement in the Dec. 2 killing of Dr. Ricardo Rotoras, president of the state-owned University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines here.
The alleged henchman, Junrell Gamanay, had been tagged as among several suspects who shot and killed Rotoras, according to the Cagayan de Oro police office.
Gamanay, the police said, was a close aide of Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo Parojinog, who had gone into hiding since last year following the killings of his brother, then Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, and several others during a police raid in Ozamiz.
Gamanay was also tagged in other killings in Ozamiz, including that of former Vice Mayor Rolando Romero in 2016.
Gamanay was arrested in Makati City on Jan. 17 and was tagged by a witness as among the assailants of Rotoras. —Jigger Jerusalem
