Hamaka Festival
A thanksgiving event in Taytay, Rizal province, that aims to promote and showcase the works of locals in different industries. Hamaka is a portmanteau of the words “hamba” (woodworks), “makina” (sewing machine) and “kasuotan” (garments). Among the activities are trade exhibit, street dancing, fashion show, sportsfest and beauty pageant.
Feb. 13 to 17
Laguimanok Festival
The celebration at Padre Burgos in Quezon province coincides with the town’s founding anniversary. Among the festivities include the float parade, street dancing, beauty pageant and chicken roasting competition.
Feb. 15 to 18
Bacolaodiat Festival
The city of Bacolod in Negros Occidental province celebrates Chinese New Year with colorful giant lanterns, illuminated floats, fireworks and cultural dances. A Chinese food alley will also be set up during the festival. Bacolaodiat came from the words “Bacolod” and “lao diat,” which means celebration in Fookien.
