Fisherman hurt in Zamboanga del Sur shooting

/ 01:13 PM February 10, 2018

PAGADIAN CITY-A fisherman was wounded when shot by a lone suspect in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur on Friday evening, the police said Saturday.

Police Officer 3 Genesis Maghuyop said Ramil Velarde, 44, a resident of Barangay Guiniculalay, got curious when dogs kept on barking and went outside his house around 8:27 p.m. to check.

As soon as he was outside the house, Maghuyop said Velarde saw an unidentified man standing some five meters away, who drew a gun and shot him.

Velarde, who was hit on the left leg, was able to crawl back into the house, according to Maghuyop.

The perpetrator fled and disappeared into the darkness.

Responding policemen rushed the victim to a hospital.

Maghuyop said Velarde had theorized that the gun attack might have something to do with a fight he recently had with a man, who was not named.

He said the Dinas police already invited that person of interest and investigation was continuing.
