DID YOU KNOW: HIV notes 2,831 HIV cases among youth, Jan-Oct 2017

According to the latest data from the Department of Health, a total of 2,831 Filipino youth between 15 and 24 years old were found positive for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from January to October 2017.

In October alone, 269 youth in this age group tested positive for HIV.

A total of 261 cases or 97 percent were infected through sexual contact, while six were infected through sharing of injected needles.

There was no data on the mode of transmission in the two remaining cases. —Marielle Medina
