Kamuning Bakery owner Wilson Lee Flores expressed his extreme sadness after the iconic bake shop that was established dating back in the pre-war period was destroyed by fire on Tuesday midnight.
In a text message sent to INQUIRER.net, Flores said that despite of being out the country, he managed to monitor the fire incident all night.
“[I am] very, very, very sad that [the] pioneer 79-year-old Kamuning Bakery Café burned. I’m abroad due to invitation, but didn’t sleep all night to monitor,” Flores said.
Flores shared that his initial reaction after hearing the incident was to ask his employees to make a head count in order to ensure that everyone was safe.
The bakery’s owner also said that he was already thinking how he could send financial assistance to his staff and rebuild the iconic bakery.
“I’m thinking how to help my bakers and staff for their lost incomes in [the] coming weeks or months,” Flores said.
“I’m thinking how to continue and find ways to rebuild,” he added.
Flores then expressed his gratitude to the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Filipino Chinese Volunteer fire brigades for responding to the fire incident.
The Kamuning Bakery was hit by fire at 12:52 a.m. and was declared fire out at 2:43 a.m.
The bakery, which was reportedly established back in 1939, had been a regular venue for various media fora. /jpv
