The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has observed on Monday a “high volume of lava flow” around the restive Mayon volcano in Albay province.

This as Phivolcs also recorded two eruptions at Mt. Mayon before Monday’s sunrise.

Kenn John Veracruz, administrative aide of Phivolcs, said that while they have not seen any episode of lava fountaining at the crater, there is an “ongoing high-volume incandescent lava flow” in Mi-isi and Bonga Gullies.

“This is just part of Mayon’s ongoing eruption,” Veracruz, however, explained. “It is a normal activity of the eruptive Mayon.”

Meanwhile, latest data of Phivolcs showed that Mayon spewed ash around 2:54 a.m. and 5:22 a.m. on Monday.

Alert Level 4 remained over Mayon volcano, and Phivolcs still advises the public to take extra precautions and stay away from the danger zone since a major explosion is still possible. Faye Orellana, INQUIRER.net                                 /kga
