Man in murder of trike driver nabbed in Batangas

SAN PEDRO CITY — A man facing a murder charge was arrested in Tanauan City in Batangas province on Sunday morning.

Supt. Renato Mercado, Tanauan police chief, identified the suspect as Vener Tuico.

In a phone interview, Mercado said the police served the warrant at Tuico’s house in Barangay (village) Tinurik at past 5 a.m.

“There was no resistance when he was shown the warrant,” he said.

In August 2017, tricycle driver Serafin Gallivo Jr. was shot by two men in Barangay Ambulong. Reports said Gallivo was able to name Tuico as one of the assailants before he died in the hospital.

Mercado said they were reviewing Tuico’s case following his arrest.

“He reportedly left (after the murder) and recently came home in Tanauan,” Mercado added. /cbb
