The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it is now supervising the construction of temporary toilets and bath areas in evacuation camps for residents of Daraga, Albay who have been displaced following the Mayon volcano eruption.
In a statement, DPWH Region 5 Director Danilo Versola said the construction of the 333 temporary toilets and bath areas in 56 evacuation centers for Mayon evacuees in Daraga are now underway.
Versola said the immediate construction of the toilets would address the evacuees’ need for hygiene and sanitation.
According to the DPWH, it would manage the operation of the evacuation camps as well as of nine other public schools and relocation centers in Daraga, a first-class municipality.
The DPWH said the management of evacuation camps in Daraga was assigned to them during a recent Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council meeting.
At the meeting, it was agreed that each national government agency would manage assigned evacuation camps in the affected cities and municipalities, the DPWH said. /muf
