NBI probes firm using Koko’s name to sell cryptocurrency

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has tasked the National Bureau of Investigation to look into the operations of a firm for allegedly using the name of Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III to sell cryptocurrency to investors, many of them overseas Filipino workers.

Aguirre gave the order in response to Pimentel’s letter seeking his intervention after learning that Digital Currency Co. Ltd. (DCC) had been luring investors to buy virtual currency by claiming it had entered into a deal with the Senate leader.

Besides DCC officials also being investigated was a certain Boy Joven, who supposedly facilitated the visit of DCC representatives to Pimentel’s office on Nov. 21, 2017.  —MARLON RAMOS
