ILOILO CITY—A three-hour fire on Wednesday night gutted a resort on Boracay Island in Aklan province, destroying at least P20 million worth of property.

No one, however, was reported hurt in the fire that hit Nami Resort Boracay in Sitio Diniwid, Barangay Balabag, but their guests had to be moved to other hotels, said Fire Senior Insp. Lorna Parcellano, Boracay fire marshal.

“All guests and employees are safe and have been accounted for,” said Nami Resort’s statement posted on its website.

“We will conduct a full investigation, but for now we ask for your thoughts, kind wishes and prayers  at this difficult time,” it added.

Neighboring properties had minor damage as firefighters passed through these areas to reach the cliffside resort.

Initial investigation showed the fire could have started from a garbage bin in the resort’s kitchen. It was put out around 1 a.m. on Thursday. —NESTOR P. BURGOS JR.
